Located on the Blackwater estuary in Essex, Maldon was once one of only two towns in Essex, the other being Colchester. Home to many picturesque buildings, including the grade I-listed, 15th-century Moot Hall, Maldon has a long and interesting history, not least as the site of the Battle of Maldon which took place against Viking raiders. Since 1882 the Maldon Crystal Sea Salt Company has been producing Maldon Sea Salt in the area, and the town was also the country’s first home of a ‘supermarket’ when Tesco opened their new-style store in 1958.
