Sri Lanka got its first radio in 1923, back then Sri Lanka is known as Ceylon. The first radio broadcast done with recorded music from a recovered radio equipment parts, from old captured German submarine. Sri Lanka started, Regular broadcasting on 16 December 1925, During World War II Radio station was taken over by the British military and renamed the radio station to "SEAC" which is broadcast across South Asia from 1944 (October).After the World War II ended, control handed over to a civilian government of Ceylon then the government renamed it as "Radio Ceylon" and it became immensely popular all over the south Asia. Now it functions as Ceylon Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). It broadcasts on medium wave until the adoption of Frequency modulation technology after that Private broadcasters came in and now the country has lots of radio stations divided along linguistic lines providing services in English, Sinhala and Tamil language.
