How to find out the bank by card number?

The number of any bank card is indicated on its front side, and by standard may include from 13 to 19 digits. Most often there are 16 of them. By the first digit of a card number you can tell what payment system the card belongs to. For example, VISA cards always start with number 4. In general, the card number must necessarily contain only the BIN (Bank Identification Number) - the first 6 digits of the number - and the card product code (the seventh and eighth digits). The BIN is used to identify the bank within the card payment system for authorization, processing and clearing. Actually you can determine (theoretically) by the BIN what bank issued the card. That is you need to find the BIN-guide and see which bank this number belongs to. But the internal division inside BIN is the closed information of payment system and accessible only to its participants.

Let us look at the main issuers:

The first digit equals:

- 1 or 2 - Airlines
- 3 Travel or Entertainment (or American Express payment system)
- 4 Visa MPS
- 5 MasterCard IPS
- 6 trade organizations.
- 7 fuel and energy corporations
- 8 telecommunications companies
- 9 governmental bodies

The next three digits (2,3,4) in the card number indicate the issuing organization.

The fifth and the sixth digits provide additional information on the bank and the card type. Thus, the first 6 figures identify the bank and have a special name - Bank Identification Number or BIN, by which you can find out the issuer.

This is what Find My Bin provides.
