Stretching between I-15 to the east and I-5 to the west, the Mission Valley area of San Diego is actually two communities, Mission Valley East and Mission Valley West. Once the site of the first Spanish outpost in California, Mission Valley today includes residential areas, shopping centers, and other commercial enterprises.
The Mission Valley area is linked to neighboring communities (including greater San Diego) with a vast network of roads and highways. Traffic is usually heavy, and the occasional accident or fender bender happens in and around Mission Valley, similar to other San Diego and Southern California cities.
