Many children know about McGruff the Crime Dog®. In 1980, he was launched to teach children about fighting crime. The dog, who was often seen in his long, rumpled trench coat, was often heard saying, "Take A Bite Out Of Crime®." Over time, he gained fame from television commercials, appearances in comic books, and even in-person appearances. His goal was to teach children about safety and what people could do to make a difference in the crime and overall security of their neighborhoods.
