Before an update process, a user is being recommended to create a backup of current configuration settings so that when an update process gets done you can restore it using the myrouter.local interface. By creating a backup of the configuration settings, a user can save himself from reconfiguring the router. You should also read the release notes that get downloaded along with the firmware file to know the features that are going to get updated during the router.
